OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY - R.D. Lawrence Place Commemorative Stamp
The limited edition R.D. Lawrence Place Commemorative Stamp produced through a Canada Post program, was launched on April 22, 2008 to mark the grand opening of the Place. The first of three planned legal postage stamps to feature images of the cultural centre, the Place's stamp features original commissioned artwork of a wolf and a line drawing of the building by local Canadian artist Donna Bisschop. The stamp is a photograph by Jim Wuepper of Ron Lawrence and Tundra, a wolf he rescued and raised after its mother had been killed. These unique and beautiful collector items are sold for $40 a sheet at R.D. Lawrence Place. We also have sheets of 40 stamps for the same cost. The 100 commemorative sheets of 20 stamps have been numbered and number one will be auctioned Dec 12 - 17 online. Please see the auction page for details.
FOSTER A BOOKWORM - Giving an anthology = giving the gift of reading
For $20 each, we will put R.D. Lawrence Place Commemorative Anthologies into the hands of local students. These anthologies will give students a taste of the adventures Ron Lawrence wrote about, excellent samples of different styles of writing by local and national authors, and inspire them by example to write. Recipients will be chosen by teachers. Proceeds will support reading and writing initiatives at the Place. We are grateful for the support of the Haliburton Highlands Writers' and Editors' Network and editor Pauline Johnson for the commemorative anthology project. To buy an anthology for yourself or for a student please call 286-2298 or contact the RDLP Coordinator. Credit cards are accepted.
RAISE THE ROOF - support the capital campaign
There are 500 sections of roof available to sponsor for a real steel (roof, that is!) at $10. Your name - or a grandchild, or perhaps that of a family member you’d like to honour - will go in our commemorative history book on display at the cultural centre. We also need major support for the roof and have 50 trusses available for sponsorship at $250. Once again, your name will be featured in our book, and an up-coming website page. You will also receive a certificate acknowledging your part in the place. Call 286-2298 or contact the RDLP Coordinator. Credit cards are accepted.
All donations of an amount of your choice are cheerfully accepted. Please check back here for updates on new initiatives, sponsorship opportunities and other ways to help. To make a donation please make cheques payable to R.D. Lawrence Place or contact the RDLP Coordinator for credit card information. For mailing information please see the contact us page.
Recycle those unwanted items by donating them to the RDLP table and help us raise funds for our archive room to preserve the R.D. Lawrence collection. Or buy a table and turn clutter into cash! We will have information about environmental products and services. The event is a celebration of Ron Lawrence's birthdate and as per his tradition we will be doing a ceremonial planting and giving a reading from his works. For information about booking a table please call 286-2298. |
