Minden Hills Museum

Minden Museum
Minden Hills Museum has been preserving our local heritage and bringing history to life for all ages since 1984.

Stroll through the museum's seven heritage buildings set on the grounds of the Cultural Centre. Explore a one-room school house, take a moment in the Wee Kirk, peek into pioneer life in the Bowron log home,  the blacksmith shop, the logging camp or one of the others we have to offer.  If one of your party 'gets out of line' then put them in the stocks and pillories, and save the moment with a picture.

Founded in 1859, Minden's heritage derives from logging, mining and some agriculture. A rugged pioneer past is captured in the many artifacts and videos held at the museum.

Virtual Exhibit
For King & County:  Soldiers of the Haliburton Highlands
This exhibit focuses on many people, from the Haliburton dignitary Walter Noice and his wife Ida, to the wartime sweethearts Vera Cryderman and Stuart Taylor; from the inspirational poetry of local Joseph H. Burns to the contributions to medicine by Doctor Wilfred Crowe.  The timeline includes Haliburton's history of wartime from attestations made by locals from Haliburton County to become part of the First World War Battalions, the wartime proaganda used to encourage the community to be supportive of the cause, to the return of the remains of Haliburton soldiers for Haliburton's first wartime funeral and the continued contribution made by Haliburton during the Second World War.  Many different artifacts are included in this virtual exhibit including, newspaper clippings from the time, letters to and from family and seethearts, even romantic postcards.  Alos included are videos that demonstrate in awesome magnitude the contribution made by Haliburton County for King and Country.  To see this exhibit click here.

Peace Garden Labyrinth
Relax as you let your feet circle your way into the Peace Garden Labyrinth, dedicated in 2008 during the unveiling of a peace pole that says, "may peace prevail on earth" in five different languages. Labyrinths are found around the globe and designs vary by culture. What they all have, including the centre's seven-circuit labyrinth, is one way in and one way out. How many ways you can find to enjoy this tranquil setting is limited only by your imagination.

Artifact Donation
The Minden hills Museum is currently not accepting donations.  We appreciate your understanding while we try to deal with our backlog of artifacts.
